Microsoft ended support for Windows 8.1 on 10 January 2023. It still installs and runs, but it receives no security updates at all, so anything you find here is worth doing on a machine that stays off the open internet, or as a step before moving on. If this is your everyday computer, Windows 10 or Windows 11 is the safer place to land, and the licences below cover both.
